Have you ever known someone to feel depressed because they’re aging quickly? Why does someone age when they do? And what does this have to do with chiropractic?

The answer is actually quite simple. Think of a car: just as a car is a machine, so is the human body. A car is designed to withstand a certain amount of stress and still work normally. For instance, a short stop does not cause the motor to fall out. The ability of a car to rebound from stress and still function like new can be thought of as a form of homeostasis.

Homeostasis? What’s that? Homeostasis is the ability of an organism to remain stable and young, effectively bouncing back from stress, like a basketball. Like any machine, a car eventually succumbs to wear and tear. The better it’s maintained however, the slower it ages. The same is true for the human body.

The human body is a machine? You bet. It’s an extraordinarily intricate system of parts with the brain as the director, and all connected by nerves.

Let’s play a little Jeopardy! This is the largest organ of the body? Clue 1: it manufactures Vitamin D. Clue 2: without it, you would literally evaporate. What is: your skin.

Here’s another: although these organs are inside the body, they are constantly exposed to the external environment. What are… Clue: believe it or not, they can float on water. What are: your lungs.

How about one more? This body part guides and shapes food to make it digestible. Clue: it consists of 16 muscles, not just one. What is: your tongue.

So, what determines the speed of aging? How well the body bounces back from stress, maintaining its stability and youth. Remember what that’s called? Homeostasis. How does homeostasis happen? Via the nerves. The nerves allow the brain and rest of the body talk about talk to each other.

Now back to our question: what does aging have to do with chiropractic? Everything. Nerves come from the spine. If the superintendent is misaligned, nerves don’t work as they should, and it’s called a spinal subluxation. When the nerves have been compromised, the body will age faster. Disease, arthritis, aging skin, fatigue and more will occur sooner than necessary. A chiropractor realigns the spine so the nerves can regain full function. Along with all healthy lifestyle choices, chiropractic care allows one to stay younger for a longer period of time.

Do you have a friend or loved one who suffers from stress of aging? Ask your chiropractor for your copy of aging information to pass along, so your loved one can finally find relief and live the life they’ve always imagined. You can help change someone’s life. What feels better than that?

“A man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools.” Spanish proverb.
